Week 2 Reflection
Senior project week 2 reflection
This second week of senior project was really great. I got to do more ceramics than the previous week, and it was really nice to be able to spend some hours in the studio. I was able to set up my concentration demonstration and have my capstone project exit interview, which went pretty well and was pretty fun. This week I was also able to talk to Trish Murtha and Courtney Minnehan, who both offered me amazing information that has been very helpful with my print-making process. Courtney runs her own sticker-making business, which is slightly different from print-making, but the process from original drawing to a copy of the work is pretty similar. The main difference between the two is that the image gets printed on a different kind of paper. I did a lot of experimentation with the Epson printer this week, which was a little different from the HP, and there’s a lot to figure out. Using photoshop has been helpful though, and talking with Trish was very insightful. Trish is a watercolor artist who has a lot of experience with print-making, whether doing it herself or out-sourcing, so it was very cool to talk to her about the different things she’s tried and what she likes best. Spending time experimenting with this process has definitely been frustrating at times, but also very exciting to know that I am also on my way to figuring out what I like best and what process I will find along the way. I think having this time dedicated to just this project has been really cool, and definitely motivating. I’ve wanted to learn how to make my own prints for a while, and this gave me the opportunity to do it, which was amazing. Even though senior project is coming to a close, I’m excited to keep going with this project, trying new things, talking to new people, and finding my way through what will undoubtedly be a long but very fulfilling process.
